The marine rotifer Brachionus plicatilis in its amictic form produces a lot of eggs that after a certain stage of maturation, inside the female’s body, are expelled in the exterior attached by a stalk to the mother’s body. This peculiar procedure-that is the transportation from inside to the outside of the mother’s body-is very rapid and involves a lot of effort from the animal. That’s why after the “birth” the mother seems exhausted. The egg outside the body continues its development.
